We have visitors!

November 10, 2012

Auntie Erica and Auntie Krista couldn't stay away from all this excitement. First thing Saturday morning we took them over to the lot and ran around and took pictures. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and so much fun to show off our project!

This is the basement wall. The frames are still on and the dirt has not yet been filled in - frames have to come off first.

It has created some new kind of fun. Tunnel running. I feel like this is getting slightly dangerous.

This is how thick the poured walls are. Pretty amazing I think. I didn't know how they would be "poured". A house down the street had its basement poured a few days before ours so we got to see the frames for it go on, see the pour and then see the frames pulled off. I was curious to learn how the cement doesn't stick to the frames...Larry explained that the frames are oiled so they come off easily when it's time. Viola.

Oh hi.

Carter and Helena could not stop running around. This is about as good of a shot of them as I could get. Warren didn't really stop moving either come to think of it.

Fionn, need a little help here?

Carter and Helena are standing in what will be our garage. Helena is in the bike garage.

The basement is not a big dirt hole anymore.

The dirt pile still beckons.

Basement walls are poured!

November 9, 2012

The basement is taking shape. The walls are poured and the frames should come off Monday. Then Larry and crew will rough in the plumbing in the basement, place the drains in basement and garage and then pour the basement and garage floors. Fun stuff. Even more fun to play around. Although, with more equipment I need to keep my eye on C, H and F! This weather is still amazing! Larry stayed at the site one night this week until 11 pm with lights to capitalize on our good luck. Hope the neighbors weren't too bothered.

Let's get some pictures of the kids in here first before getting to the site:)

Helena and Charlotte were reunited earlier in the day when she asked to have her returned from the basement back room. I guess it has been about 4 mos. since Warren took her away from Helena!

Ok-onto the site. This is looking east from the side lot. As you can see, much more going on now.

This view is looking south where our garage will be.

Better view.

This is the front of the house. Warren put up the orange "fence". He is starting to get worried about someone falling in the hole. Hopefully things will move along at such a pace that we won't have to worry about the hole for much longer.

Another pizza party at the "house"

October 24, 2012

We have had such amazing weather this fall and have definitely taken advantage of these beautiful days to play at the construction site. The mound of dirt has provided hours of fun for all of us and the neighborhood kids. Therefore we decided to invite more people to the party-who else but the Fergusons to party in the dirt??
Nope, this playing in the dirt thing does not get old.

Pretty big hole. Katie is reaching up to where our crawlspace will be and our master bath will be over that.

Pizza time. We even had it delivered to our new address!!

And yes, there is beer in that blue cooler in the back of that swagger wagon.

Andy standing in the "basement" while Warren looks on.

Katie and Helena enjoying a slice of life:)

Grandma joined us this time!! Fionn was so pleased.

Lots of kids. Lots of dirt.

Digging has started!

Larry and crew, and when I say that I really mean a guy named Kenny, started to dig Monday, October 22. Larry shared with me that it was also his 35th wedding anniversary. That's a good omen right?

Fionn and I drove past on the way to school and they were just getting started. I picked Carter up from school and we headed over there. Carter was so excited I thought he might faint when Larry asked if he wanted to drive the bulldozer. Kenny showed him the rope and he dug out 2 piles!! You couldn't wipe the toothless grin from his face if you tried!

After that, we went home and returned with Helena and Fionn in tow. Warren met us there later for champagne and snacks. We also met a few new neighbors. We were slightly ghetto - hosting a picnic in front of a mud hole out of the back of a minivan. But, whatever, the neighbors seemed to like us. Maybe because I had a cooler of Upland?

The kids had so much fun! They raced around and climbed the mud mounds until it started to get dark. It was a beautiful day and we are all very excited!!

Carter was up this hill before I was completely out of the car!

Pretty sweet image.

Kenny giving Carter a lesson before turning him loose!

Left front corner of the house.

Right front corner of the house. Remember that blue stake?

Carter in the hole. I could barely get him out to get home and gather the other two!!

Big day for Carter and Larry!

Helena in the hole!

Who the hell is that anyway? Fionn???

Fionny at the tip top!

Our ghetto picnic.

Fionn chilling on the front corner. He was more interested in the house they are building across the street I guess.

What a beautiful night.

And, they found geodes.

Here they are.

We finally got them into the car and home for a late dinner. I think Carter fell asleep as his head was falling into his pillow. Helena, of course, was up all night. Typical. Who cares? We're building a house!!
